You can improve search engine optimization on your website or blog by doing a few things. These include optimizing the design of your website, responsiveness and page speed. You should not be afraid of Google algorithms as they can be your friend. Instead, focus on creating value for your users.
Duplicate content
Avoid submitting duplicate content to Google if you want to improve SEO rankings. Sites that have their own canonical version are preferred by the search engine. URL parameters can be used to create page variations. Google won’t penalize you if you publish the same content in multiple locations.
Blog posts, editorial content and product information pages can all be duplicate content. Scrapers, which republish content from blogs, are another common source of duplicate material. E-commerce websites can also be affected by this problem. Multiple websites selling the same item may sell it on different websites, with different descriptions.
Although it may make blogging more straightforward, duplicate content can have a negative impact on your SEO. This was once a popular method to increase SEO rankings. Bloggers could write great posts and then search for websites that rank high in search engines. They can then repost the post to reap the benefits of their visibility. Google’s algorithm has many goals, including not allowing duplicate content and crediting the original author.
Keyword stuffing
Some website owners use keyword stuffing to fool Google’s algorithm. This is bad for both the search engine and the user. This practice not only creates a poor user experience but also leads to poor-quality content. It can also be distracting to read the same words repeatedly. Human readers can also tell if a website is intended to fool an algorithm or is of poor quality.
Keyword stuffing can be a disastrous practice that will cost you your business. This method results in articles that focus on keywords but are full of unnecessary words and don’t fulfill the reader’s intent. This will cause readers to leave your site quickly. This will lead to higher bounce rates which can ultimately hurt your business.
Using blog networks
There are two types of blog networks: public and private. Private networks don’t sell any links. The ones that sell links are public ones. Private networks don’t usually sell links and are often well-disguised. This makes them safer for SEO.
Private blog networks (PBNs) are a group of blogs owned by one publisher. A PBN generally consists of three or more blogs. Each blog provides backlinks to its main website via its other websites. The PBN also transmits link juice to high-authority third-party websites.
Google also penalized link networks that spam comments. Many of these networks were banned as a result. MyBlogGuest is one example. It was banned in 2016 after Google’s algorithm change. Smarty, which runs the network, stated that they have no plans to change their policies.
Too many ads
Google can penalize you if you use too many ads on your site. Google does not have any specific guidelines but they do have guidelines regarding placement and density. Google generally doesn’t want ads below the fold on desktop and higher than 30% on mobile. Ads can be included in moderation depending on the audience and content of your website or blog.
Google lifted the limitation of three ads per webpage in August last year. They still allow unlimited AdSense ads placements until March this year. Although Google does not have any new restrictions, they recently released “Fred” an update.
